Newell Arnerich, AIA, Architect, President/CEO
Since co-founding ad, he has been responsible for its record of securing challenging and diverse commissions, and the receipt of several awards for excellence. With consistently high standards of design for the past 32 years, Mr. Arnerich has directed ad in a variety of domestic and international commissions. This work took him to London, England for three years to direct the firm's joint-venture housing and commercial work in the Middle East. His expertise includes concept creation and development, branding, scheduling and budget management, project and construction management. His passion for creative environments is founded on working with numerous advertising agencies clients, graphic design firms and projects such as Institute for Creative Technologies. He is also a leading expert in land entitlement processing and transportation related planning issues. His educational background was completed in architecture and urban design at U.C. Berkeley where he received both his Bachelors and Masters degrees and taught undergraduate classes in design, illustration and structural analysis. He is a licensed architect in nine states along with a national certification from NCARB.
His civic work is based on several years as a member of an Architectural Design Review Board, Planning Commission Chair and Chair of the Tri-Valley Affordable Housing Commission, state wide Committee on Economic Development and many other civic boards. Mr. Arnerich's passion for travel to embrace new ideas and cultures has taken him throughout Europe and the Middle East over the past thirty years and over three million miles of airline travel. His personal creative time is spent playing acoustic guitar, gardening and growing cabernet sauvignon grapes and producing wine.
Jack Sagen, Architect, Sr. Vice President, Director of Architecture
Jack Sagen is the Senior Associate for the firm with 35 years experience in design, planning, specification writing, construction support and project management for numerous major works. Jack earned his B.A in architecture at the University of Oregon. he began his architectural career working for Pfluger Architects, in San Francisco. He joined ad in 1983 as Senior Associate.
Representative projects include design and project management of large scale, international projects such as the $200 million construction package for a civic center and shopping mall in Jubail, Saudi Arabia; the design and supervision of production and construction on institutional projects such as the new San Jose State University Library, University of San Francisco Business School and Conference Center, Baltinore Hall, Laboratory and Office Complex, City College of San Francisco; as well as the design of many banking, financial and commercial facilities including restoration and renovation work. His experience includes work with major firms in the San Francisco Area, his own firm, and as a consultant for international projects. His in-depth computer-aided design skills have created the progressive and high office standards for all construction documentation. Mr. Sagen finds times between projects to harness his enthusiasm for fly fishing skills and at the same time competing in regional bocce ball tournaments.
Barbara Maggio, IIDA, Director of Interior Design
Ms. Maggio is responsible for overseeing Interior Design including furnishings and finishes. This experience is drawn from domestic work in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Her previous modeling career gave her great experience in creative color and texture design. Her design abilities have helped establish corporate standards for many of our clients such as Morgan Stanley, USC, Kingsford Capital Management, Mercury Insurance, advertising agencies and many others. Her combined discipline in both interior design and color/texture design has provided a greater insight and a more cohesive merging of the two disciplines. Ms. Maggio's use of color, texture and light has produced outstanding design innovations. Her work was broadly based in residential and commercial areas, while leading to a focus on commercial office environments. At the same time, Ms. Maggio's intimate knowledge of furniture systems has provided exceptional coordination ability with outside vendors for ordering, installation and quality control. She heads up our organization in providing comprehensive interior design and furnishing services. She has over twenty years experience in executive and managerial positions with an emphasis as a lead communicator. Her past experience includes work at a large multi-disciplined architectural-engineering firm. Her passion for color and texture design keeps her busy experimenting in flower gardens and textile illustration.
